We Need This in Ghana: Tanzania’s New President-John Magufuli Cancels Independence Day Celebrations
For the first time in 50 years, President John Magufuli won’t give the people of
Tanzania the opportunity to gather for speeches, traditional dances, military
parades and flypasts.

parades and flypasts.
This is what almost all African countries including Ghana do each year as our
Independence Day celebration.

Instead, President Magufuli wants Tanzanians to gather and clean markets,
schools and and public spaces.

And just as Ghana, a lot of money goes into this annual celebrations which
really adds nothing new to our economy—somewhat depressing when you
even consider what a mess we’ve turned the country into since Independence

Jamaica News: New Tanzania President Sacks Hospital Head After Surprise Visit To Medical Facility, Saw Patients Sleeping On Floor
Newly installed Tanzanian president, John Magufuli sacked the head of the country's main hospital after finding patients sleeping on the floor during a surprise visit.
"The president was dismayed and saddened by the state of medical service delivery, particularly for patients sleeping on the floor," a statement from his office said.
He also reportedly broke up the governing board at Muhimbili National Hospital after discovering the main scanning and diagnostic machines were not working and seeing other poor conditions on Monday.
"The president is trying to send a message that times have changed ... It's not business as usual ... It's all about delivery – the government has to deliver for the people," the chief secretary at the president's office, Ombeni Sefue, said.
Magufuli took over last week from former president Jakaya Kikwete, who stepped down after two terms in office.

Meet the man who built a plane using video tutorials
It’s difficult to believe, but Asmelash Zeferu has managed to build a plane mostly with the help of tutorial videos on YouTube.
It was the 35-year-old Ethiopian’s childhood dream to become a pilot but was rejected by the Ethiopian Airlines Aviation Academy. But he was so determined to take off that he decided to build a plane.
"I decided to build my own aircraft if I couldn't be a pilot," he told CNN. “Then I'd be able to fly high in the sky."
For the last 10 years, Zeferu has been working on his dream, salvaging spare parts from second-hand markets and handcrafting certain parts like the airplane’s wings. He then upgraded the 48 horsepower Volkswagen Beetle engine to 78 for his two-seater aircraft and settled for the wheelbase of a Suzuki motorcycle as his landing gear.
And he did this with the help of some aviation experts, aircraft manuals and YouTube tutorials, according to CNN.
While Zeferu was ready to fly his plane in June, he encountered some technical problems during the process. However, it didn’t deter him from pursuing his goal.
Almost five months later, he is ready to take off, again.
And this will not be the end to his quest – sky is the only limit for this ambitious amateur pilot.
"My dream is to become an aerospace engineer at NASA," he told CNN. "And I will be."

Cops need to do more of this instead of being ready to arrest them and ruin their lives!
Now THAT is how you be a peace officer... I hope he doesn't get fired for it. (I hate being as cynical as I am).

FINALLY, THE GIRLS ARE BACK!! 241 Women & Children Abducted by Boko Haram are Free!
Military forces have rescued 241 women and children kept captive by Boko Haram.
Nigeria’s military said on Wednesday they had freed the prisoners following a raid on two camps controlled by the radical Islamist terrorist group, CNN reports.

The raids took place on Tuesday and destroyed both camps, army spokesman Col. Sani Usman told Nigerian newspaper Punch.
CNN reports the raids also resulted in the arrests of 43 Boko Haram militants including local leader Bulama Modu.
The rescue mission is wonderful news, particularly following more than a year of searching and hoping for the safe return of the abducted school girls from the village of Chibok — a horrifying incident that sparked the #bringbackourgirls hashtag and protests across the world.
It’s not yet clear, however, whether any of the Chibok school girls abducted in April 2014 are among the newly rescued women and children.
This is not the first time a group of Boko Haram hostages has been released: In May this year, 293 women and girls were rescued after the military captured three insurgent camps inside the Sambisa Forest in the country’s northeast.
Days later, a further 234 women and girls were rescued from the group — although in an unsettling twist of events, it transpired that at least 91 percent of that second group of rescued women and girls were pregnant.
As a United Nations report revealed, all but 20 of the 234 women and girls had visible baby bumps.

Those women’s pregnancy follows reports that women and girls kidnapped by the insurgents are routinely raped and forced to marry Boko Haram fighters, according to International Business Times.
The group’s leader, Abubakar Shekau, has said in a video released in November: “The issue of the girls is long forgotten because I have long ago married them off.”
In another chilling video released in May 2014, Shekau boastingly announced that he planned to treat the captured girls like “slaves”. He said:
“I will sell them in the market, by Allah. I will sell them off and marry them off. There is a market for selling humans… I will marry off a woman at the age of 12. I will marry off a girl at the age of nine…

Women are slaves. I want to reassure my Muslim brothers that Allah says slaves are permitted in Islam.”
There is no word yet on how many, if any, of the newly rescued women and children are pregnant.
Boko Haram in March pledged allegiance to Islamic State, which which rules a self-declared “caliphate” in areas of Syria and Iraq.
Boko Haram, whose name translates to “Western education is forbidden,” wants to establish a caliphate of its own in Nigeria.
