Former assistant minister Betty Tett was yesterday held for questioning over allegations she plotted to murder the managing director of Scanad Media Company.
Tett has been adversely mentioned by John Wachira, who was charged before a Kibera court yesterday with conspiring to murder Andrew John Laird White.
The former Westlands MP allegedly hired Wachira to eliminate White over a Sh1 million payment, police sources said.
Tett was interrogated at the Kabete DCIO office.
White, accompanied by his lawyer Cliff Ombeta, recorded a comprehensivestatement with the police over the murder attempt.
Wachira denied the charge before resident magistrate Brian Khaemba.
He was remanded at Kabete police station until Monday when he will be taken back to court for further directions.
Wachira allegedly plotted to kill White between August 1 and December 29 in Nairobi.
He was arrested on December 29 when he allegedly went to collect Sh3 million from White to spare his life.
Wachira had allegedly gone to White’s home on December 24 to negotiate the payment, but he did not find him and he left a phone number through which he could be contacted.
On December 28, he approached White and demanded the Sh3million.
White promised he would have the money ready the next day.
He then reported the matter to Kabete CID, who laid an ambush and arrested Wachira as he was receiving the money.
