Gaborone — Tlholego Chaba, one of Signed International's first acting talent exports, made his debut performance few weeks ago on South Africa's popular soapie,Generations.
He plays a sangoma and gangster friend of Cosmo in Mfundi Vundla's new Generations: The Legacy.
Produced by Cowhorn Productions, Signed International was a television acting competition that aired on BTV last year. The show producer, Johnson Otlaadisa, said the main goal of Signed International was to expose acting talent to international market as well as to develop the raw talent.
The crew toured the country where they selected 10 of the best actors and actresses in Botswana and then conducted workshops, while the selected also went ahead to compete for the P50 000 cash prize, as well as contract to start a professional acting career under the management of one of the biggest casting agencies -Talent Etc based in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Otlaadisa said the talented young man born in Lobatse was one of the lucky few who were signed on Botswana's premiere acting talent show; Signed International. Chaba made history as the third Motswana to ever make his mark on Generations, following on the footsteps of Connie Ferguson and Lerato Motshwarakgole.
Signed International producer thanked Botswana Television, Brand Botswana, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture and all their technical partners for making Chaba realise his dreams.
He said as the country took on new paths in the quest for economic diversification, success stories such as Chaba would hopefully inspire government and the private sector to invest more on the future of Botswana's television and film industry.
Other Batswana who were discovered and signed to Talent Etc from Signed International include Kgomotso Ramakoba, Khumo Maakwe and Kgomotso Ratsie.
