Nkurunziza says returned to Burundi

Source: Turkish Weekly
Burundi’s President Pierre Nkurunziza announced on Thursday that he had returned to his home country amid confusion in the Central African country.
"President Pierre Nkurunziza is in Burundi," the presidency’s Twitter account said.

Moments later, Nkurunziza himself tweeted: "I am in Burundi. I greet the army and police for their patriotism. I greet the Burundian people, especially for their patience."

Nkurunziza was in Tanzania on Wednesday for an East African Community (EAC) summit on the political crisis in his country when his former intelligence chief Godefroid Niyombare appeared on local media to announce that the president had been removed from power.

The Burundian leader tried to return home on Wednesday, hours after Niyombare’s announcement but he was prevented from entering the country by the backers of the attempted coup leader who sealed Burundi’s borders.

Journalist Jeff Koinange. A Nairobi court on May 13, 2015 issued a warrant for his arrest together with businessman Tony Gachok
A Nairobi court on Wednesday issued a warrant of arrest against journalist Jeff Koinange and businessman Tony Gachoka for disobeying its orders.
Nairobi Senior Resident Magistrate Maisy Chesang issued the arrest order after Mr Koinange and Mr Gachoka failed to appear in court to answer charges of discussing the conduct of a company in the media despite a court order barring the same.
The offence was allegedly committed on 'Jeff Koinage Live' show that the journalist hosts on Kenya Television Network (KTN)
“A warrant of arrest is issued against the two respondents for failing to honuor the summons to appear in court. The warrant will be effected through the complainants’ advocates,” ruled the magistrate.
MASSIVE LOSSES
The decision was a result of a complaint by businessman Jimi Wanjigi, Mr Sani Mbui Wanjigi and Kwacha Group of CompaniesLimited.

Kenyans Buying Cars Online from Japan Lose Millions to Fraudsters

Kenyan car buyers are falling prey to online criminals who are hacking into e-mails of genuine Japanese car sellers to defraud them of millions of shillings.
The Tokyo embassy has issued a warning saying criminals are hacking into online conversations between genuine car dealers in Japan and potential customers in Kenya and end up having cash transferred into fraudulent accounts.
Despite several warnings to potential buyers, Kenyans are still being conned by cybercriminals as they hunt for cheaper cars online.

Fight erupts in Burundi between soldiers loyal to the president & ones loyal to army general

Heavy fighting over the control of affairs in Burundi is currently ongoing between soldiers loyal to Burundi president Nkurunziza and those loyal to the leader of the coup that overthrew the president yesterday, Godefroid Niyombare.

According to reports, soldiers loyal to President Nkurunziza are in full control of the presidential palace, the national radio and TV stations, the airport and the centre of Bujumbura, Burundi's capital.

Media houses including radio and TV stations have been attacked and beaming signals stopped at the moment. The whereabouts of the President is still unknown as he has since left Tanzania where he went to brief members of the African Union on the crisis in his country regarding his third term bid when the coup was declared.

Meanwhile the African Union Peace & Security Council will convene an emergency meeting this afternoon to consider the situation in Burundi.

Traffic jam in Lagos won’t end anytime soon - NUPENG

Tokunbo Korodo, south-west chairman of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), says the harrowing experience of Lagos motorists and commuters arising from the fuel scarcity and gridlock on roads may not end anytime soon. According to Korodo, the trucks causing the gridlock on Eko, Liverpool and Coconut bridges, which has affected other major roads, such as Ikorodu road, may not leave the roads anytime soon despite the directive of the Lagos state govt.

Speaking with NAN in Lagos on Thursday, he said that only three depots out of over 50 in the state had petroleum products to dispense. “The development has compelled hundreds of trucks to head for the three depots to lift oil. This is the key reason for the unprecedented traffic jam that has locked down Lagos in recent days.”

Burundi coup bid: Rivals battle to control Bujumbura

Heavy fighting is reported in Burundi's capital between pro-government troops and soldiers backing an attempted coup.
Both sides say they are in control of large parts of Bujumbura. At least five soldiers have been killed.
Clashes briefly halted broadcasts at the state radio building, which is still in the hands of soldiers supporting President Pierre Nkurunziza.
Unrest began on 26 April when he said he was seeking a third term. His whereabouts remain unconfirmed.
The coup was launched by Maj Gen Godefroid Niyombare on Wednesday after Mr Nkurunziza travelled to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania's largest city, to attend a summit on the crisis in Burundi.
Reports late on Wednesday said the president had tried to fly back to Burundi but was forced to return to Tanzania as he could not land.
However, a Tanzanian government spokesman said on Thursday that Mr Nkurunziza flew out on Wednesday and did not return.
